Jinzhong Zhao, MD

Dr. Jinzhong Zhao was born in Henan Province, which is located in the middle of China. He attended
Henan Medical University in Zhengzhou, China, and graduated in 1989. He continued his post-graduate
study in Shanghai Medical University and got MD degree in orthopedics in 1995. He has been working in
Shanghai Sixth Peoples Hospital of Shanghai Jiao Tong University since then. He attended the ESSKA
travelling fellowship in Europe in 2010 and ASES traveling fellowship in 2015.
Jinzhong set up the Sports Medicine Department of Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital in 2003, which is
now the largest sports medicine department in China and had an operation volume of approximately
15000 in 2022. He personally performs over 1000 operations every year. He is keen on surgical technique
innovation and won the first prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award in 2022. He has
over 150 publications in the field of arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine. He edited the book
‘Minimally Invasive Functional Reconstruction of the Knee’, which was published by Springer Nature in
2022 and has over 1000 online accesses every month.
He is good at the development of surgical equipment and materials. He developed the first sports
medicine surgical robot for knee ligament reconstructions and the first rotator cuff patch in China, as well
as the first nonabsorbable balloon for irreparable rotator cuff tear in the world.
Jinzhong is married with his wife Min and has one boy Bo. He enjoys music and running in his spare time.
