After graduating from Williams college in 1968 I attended medical school at Columbia. I subsequently Completed a surgical intern internship, and one year of general surgery residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. I then completed my orthopedic training at Yale in 1977. I subsequently joined orthopedic specialty group in 1980 after spending a few years in a smaller practice and then by myself. I I became the managing partner in the mid 1980s and grew this practice from four physicians to about 30 doctors in a multi specialty practice. My sports medicine career started at Yale. One of my oldest friends, Bart Nisonson, Had moved to New Haven to be the team physician and he gave me many opportunities to cover athletic events. I befriended the head, athletic trainer, Bill Dayton, who taught me as much about orthopedic sports medicine as any of the Yale faculty. I volunteered as a physician for the Lake Placid Winter Olympics In 1980. There I met Richard Steadman, who asked me to join the US Ski team medical group. This was The beginning of my sports medicine career. I joined American orthopedic Society for sports medicine in 1983 and had the amazing good fortune of becoming president of this organization in 2011-2012. I became chairman of the Medical publishing board of trustees between 2015-2020 my practice has focused on clinical work and taking care of athletes of all ages. I have been lucky to be the team physician at Fairfield university since early 1980s. I've also had the opportunity to help out with USA gymnastics, and USA soccer as well as caring for the Bridgeport Islanders, the AHL affiliate for the New York Islanders. I continue the part-time practice of orthopedics. As I Often say to patient and friends who ask if I am still practicing, I state that I am and with practice, I'm getting better!
